Child sexual abuse is a form of child abuse that includes sexual activity with a minor. A child cannot consent to any form of sexual activity, period. When a perpetrator engages with a child in this manner the child is left with a lifetime sentence from the trauma inflicted upon them.
Child sexual abuse does not need to include physical contact between a perpetrator and a child. 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will experience unwanted touching or sexual abuse by their 18th birthday.

What does an abuser look like?
Anyone can be an abuser! Anyone!! The majority of perpetrators are someone the child or family knows. As many as 93% of victims under the age of 18 know the abuser. A perpetrator does not have to be an adult to harm a child. They can have any relationship to the child including an older sibling or playmate, family member, a teacher, a coach or instructor, a caretaker, or the parent of another child.
How can I protect my child from sexual abuse?
A big part of protecting your child is talking to your child. Teaching them good touch/bad touch; teaching them their body belongs to them; that they have a right to say NO; abuse is never okay and it is NEVER their fault.

Good Touch / Bad Touch
Teach your child what a good touch means. What is acceptable and what is not.
Teach your child what a bad touch is.
If a touch makes a child feel uncomfortable they have a right to say NO or STOP!! This includes hugs from both strangers and relatives. A child should Never be forced to hug someone even a relative if they do not want to.
Teach your child they are the boss of their own bodies.
Teach your child to NEVER keep secrets.
This will teach them to yell and tell if someone touches them inappropriately or makes them feel uncomfortable.
Let your child KNOW they can ALWAYS come tell you Anything without fear of judgement.
