Humanitarian Group Celebrates Birthday
Working in child advocacy there's a lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes into running a nonprofit organization. It can be challenging, at times, and there's a lot of elbow grease that people don't get to see, but in the end, one local grassroots nonprofit organization says it's all worth it.
Advocates United for Humanity recently celebrated its 4th birthday. AU4H is an all-volunteer, small grassroots organization based in North Bend, Pennsylvania. They also have a state chapter in Florida with more chapters being planned. AU4H provides vital resources and support to those in need; leading positive social change through resources, services, and networking. Their mission is to enhance the quality of life for those affected by violence.
Co-founder and acting CEO Lee Roberts said, 'we envision a world where all children can live free of violence and fear. We envision a world where children can focus on being children and growing into the very best version of their authentic selves. We strive to help make the world a better and safer place for all humanity. We help to build confidence in the younger generation for the future of humanity through various community projects, team-building exercises, and fun activities.'
From the beginning, AU4H has been all about people helping people through their campaigns. Ongoing annual campaigns, Holiday Smiles provides Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas dinner to families in need, a Warming Tree that in the last 2 years donated over 800 hats, gloves, and scarves to area children, the Community Closet providing hand sanitizer, tissues, socks, underwear, hats, gloves, and school supplies to children at Renovo Elementary School, The Sky’s the Limit program building confidence and self-esteem in area children through after school activities and community projects, providing Comfort Bears to local law enforcement officers, an anti-bullying campaign and an Emergency Food Pantry Assistance Program.
Although each program has been successful, the small nonprofit runs solely on donations and fundraising, and at times, it has been a struggle.
Roberts said, 'being a small nonprofit is hard. We want to help every child possible, but a lot of times the funding is just not there. It's heartbreaking, however our hands are tied. We are in need of donations. We have a list of how you can help on our website. Regardless of how challenging it is. We won't give up.'
The organization was founded in June 2016 by best friends and sister advocates Donna Kshir and Lee Roberts. These leading ladies have volunteered their time and talents with various non-profit organizations over their lifetime. They lend their voices to animal rights, have volunteered at their children's schools, in youth groups, and give of themselves as much as they can. Both women are highly respected activists dedicating their collective voices to Conner's Law – Kentucky and uniting with Erin's Law which has passed in 37 states as of July 2019. They also support and fight for Animal Welfare, Children's Rights, Missing/Unidentified Persons, the Homeless, Domestic Violence, and the Deaf Community. These ladies are also creators and longtime hosts of online educational radio broadcasts as well as write and publish books.
